The cocktail of drugs used to save a Fond du Lac teen from rabies is now being used to save a boy in South America.

A spokesperson from Children’s Hospital said the doctor who treated Jeanna Giese in 2004 has been talking to doctors treating a 15-year-old boy in Brazil.

Four years ago, Giese was the only person known to have survived rabies without having been vaccinated.

Children’s Hospital told 12 News they are waiting for test results from the CDC to see if the treatment worked for the Brazil teen.
